ORDINARY ASSEMBLY #4 – Choreographic Work as a Site for Revisiting History
With João dos Santos Martins and Ana Dinger
This conversation will attempt to inhabit a space of remembrance and engagement with the history—or histories—of dance, taking as both starting point and path the choreographic work of João dos Santos Martins. Le Sacre du Printemps(2013), created in collaboration with Min Kyoung Lee, revisits various versions of The Rite of Spring that use Stravinsky’s composition and/or are haunted—either manifestly or latently—by Nijinsky’s choreography. Projecto Continuado (2015), Autointitulado (2015), and Reencontro (2016) are other examples that act as gestures which summon ghosts, shadows, and (re)appearances. These are some of the moments we will explore, in which questions such as the body-as-archive and the tensions between different materialities of traces and varied modes of transmission are set in motion.
