Speculative gestures

What are the possible relationships between a choreographed gesture and an improvised gesture? This workshop explores scores and exercises that activate a negotiation between the pre-written score and its intuitive interpretation. We will explore the space “between” determined actions, the gaps that determine repetition not as equal but as a positive difference that mixes knowledge with not knowing. Using language, body, and sound, we will seek to understand choreography as a relational and speculative technology. The workshop can take place in different spaces over time—the field, the studio, and the street—also seeking to understand how context produces relationships.
